Hands off my football club say Brakes fans amid MYFC links

Leamington will be thankful the focus returns to on-field matters tonight after controversial links with MyFootballClub.com (MYFC) threatened to destroy the feel-good factor built up by last season’s Southern League Premier success.

It emerged over the weekend that MYFC, encouraged by preliminary talks with the club, had put forward Brakes as one of two clubs to go into partnership with following the cessation of their involvement with Ebbsfleet United.

This was to include sponsorship, increased internet presence and video footage of matches. It is believed there was also the possibility of back-of-the-shirt sponsorship and the purchasing of an advertising hoarding at the New Windmill.

However, supporters on fans’ forum The Banter were quick to voice their disapproval amid fears MYFC would want a place on the board and the club have moved to clarify their position.

A statement released on the club’s official website said: “The board of directors were very well aware of the original philosophies of MYFC re ownership and interaction.

“We were also aware that since their departure from Ebbsfleet United there was a significant ongoing debate amongst their membership re the level of involvement they hoped for, could expect or wished to have with another club.

“We reiterate that no discussions took place with the management of MYFC. Discussions would only have taken place if we had emerged from the voting process as their ‘preferred club’ and those discussions would have included representatives of the Brakes Trust.

“We understand fans’ concerns but can assure you that no agreement would have been reached unless we had all been satisfied that there was a benefit for all our fans and the club in general.”

Slough Town won the voting process and have now entered into a two-year sponsorship arrangement with MYFC.
