Knight goes back to the drawing board

RACING CLUB WARWICK 0 CADBURY ATHLETIC 3

Lee Knight says he is not afraid to make wholesale changes after Racing Club slumped to their second successive 3-0 reverse on Saturday.

On Saturday, Cadbury took advantage of two defensive errors to go 2-0 up inside the opening 25 minutes.

And, despite an improved showing from the home side after break, another defensive howler gifted the visitors a third goal ten minutes from time.

“The one thing that I have got is numbers in my phone and contacts,” said Knight, who returned to the side in centre midfield in the absence of Dean Curtis.

“I could easily go out and bring in six or seven new players.

“It’s not ideal at this point of the season, but I can’t keep seeing players turning up, picking up the little bit of money they do get and not giving a thought to the club.

“The commitment levels aren’t right and I won’t tolerate it.”

Knight has already moved to bolster his squad with the addition of Leon Thomas from Studley.

The former Evesham midfielder, who will also double up as Knight’s assistant, is also expected to bring two or three players with him from the Midland Alliance side.

With no fixture tomorrow, Knight will have plenty of time to bed in his new recruits ahead of Saturday week’s trip to Continental Star.

“We’ve got two weeks off which is a blessing,” he said. “There will be a few comings and goings, with one or two having to make way financially.

“We’ll have five really hard sessions before the next game and it will give me chance to get the fitness levels up and get Leon up to speed.”
