O’Callaghan is named the new Racing Club boss

The former Southam, Stockton and Woodford United boss replaces Lee Knight who walked out on the club on the eve of their Les James Challenge Cup final.

O’Callaghan will be joined at Townsend Meadow by former Racing Club player Tony Clarke, who has left his job as assistant manager at Rugby Town.

After the fall-out from Knight’s exit, Racers vice-chairman Andy Cowlard was delighted to attract such an experienced manager to the club.

“We’re really pleased and it’s worked out right for the club,” said Cowlard.

“We’ll be able to take the club forward again.

“The two of them have got some good ideas and we’re looking forward to next season.”

The appointment of O’Callaghan and Clarke, who lives in Warwick, marks a change in policy for the club after the tenure of the Kings Norton-based Knight and Cowlard says it will usher in a new era of locally-based players turning out for the club.

He said: “The way we intend to go is to bring in good local players.

“Every good player in Warwick should have the opportunity to play for Warwick.”
