Racing Club boss hails best display of the season

PELSALL VILLA 0 RACING CLUB WARWICK 2

Manager Lee Knight hailed Racers’ performance at Pelsall as their best of the season after seeing his side extend their winning sequence to four games.

Two goals in the space of five first-half minutes from Danny Charlton and Leon Blake secured the points for Racing Club, lifting them two places up the Midland Combination Premier table in the process.

And, despite spurning further chances to make the scoreline more convincing, Knight said the manner of the display made the win even more satisfying than the FA Carlsberg Vase success at Stratford Town.

“That’s four wins on the bounce for us now,” said Knight. “We only need one more to beat our previous best run of the season.

“There’s no reason we can’t kick on.

“Saturday’s performance was as good as Stratford. It was so professional, heads were on it from the start and we dominated the game.

“After having almost a month off the last two performances have been a credit to the lads.

“They’ve looked after themselves during the break and look really sharp.”

Craig Thomas was the main culprit as Racers failed to add to their 2-0 interval lead, missing several gilt-edged opportunities.

However, despite the player getting some light-hearted stick from his team-mates, Knight refused to blame Thomas for his profligacy, pointing to the striker’s suspension which had left him five weeks without a competitive fixture.

Ricardo Richards was also missing last Saturday due to a ban, while in-from strike Tyron Smith looks set to miss the remainder of the season after picking up medial ligament damage at Pelsall.

“He’s been absolutely superb and it’s a big blow,” said Knight.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, Knight faces a selection headache for tomorrow’s home clash with Pershore Town after reserve keeper Tom Robinson impressed in goal in place of Ash Malholtra last Saturday.

“On our day we can beat anyone in this league and above,” added Knight.

“We’re hitting form at the right time and I can’t ask for any more from the lads.”

Pershore lie six points clear of Racers in the table, but have played four games more than their hosts.

The match has been rescheduled for Tuesday January 31 (7.45pm).
