Too early to focus on top five says Holleran

Brakes head into tomorrow’s home clash with Cambridge City outside the play-off positions despite having gained back-to-back wins.

A midweek victory for Chippenham and a point for Chesham saw them leapfrog Brakes, but with games in hand on all their rivals, Holleran believes his side should not get too preoccupied with league placings.

“Third to eighth or ninth will change a lot between now and the end of the season,” said Holleran. “You can look all the way down to Brackley - with the quality they’ve got they could put a run together.

”People are taking points off everyone and it’s up to us to get as many points on board as quickly as we can.”

Cambridge City lie in third place, eight points clear of Leamington, but with his side having played two games less, Holleran is aware the gap can quickly be made up.

And, after suffering a 3-2 defeat at the City Ground earlier in the season, he is anticipating another entertaining clash.

“You know what you get with Cambridge. They like to play.

“They’ve got good quality and a nice balance, and they are bit like us in that they haven’t got the depth of a Salisbury, a Brackley or a Truro.

“I’d settle for playing as well as we did there in the second game of the season as there is no way we’d have all that possession and create all those chances and lose again.

“Hopefully there’ll be a big crowd down and a decent atmosphere as it helps push the players on.”

Alex Taylor is a doubt for tomorrow after being forced off during Saturday’s win at Weymouth following a crude lunge from Ben Gerring, described by Holleran as “the worst tackle I’ve seen for as long as I can remember”.

The midfielder suffered severe bruising to his knee and shin and was experiencing some discomfort in midweek.

Craig Wilding will also be missing as he finalises a move to Redditch United.

“He was one of the players I brought in that I was expecting to progress us to the next level,” said Holleran. “But it hasn’t really happened for him.

“He’s had limited opportunities, but when you get those opportunities you have to grab them and that hasn’t happened.

“We had a chat and we thought it was best that he moved on and he goes with our best wishes.”
