We did not compete, says Racing Club boss

The result was a wake-up call for new manager Tony Clarke following two promising performances in the league and left him questioning his side’s commitment.

“We did not compete all over the pitch from front to back,” said Clarke.

“I said to the lads before they went out that cup games are firstly all about how much you want it.

“Coventry sides stick their foot in where it hurts and go through brick walls if they have to.

“We got beat 3-1 by a technically very average team. But when you have 11 players fully committed and hungry to win then there will be only one outcome.”

Clarke will be looking for a response tomorrow when his side return to league action with a trip to Lichfield City.

“It is a massive three points for us,” he said.

“We will be up for it in every way so I look forward to seeing a huge reaction from the lads and them to show the team spirit which is almost there to turn our season round.

“We are not far away from where we want and need to be.”
