Containing Bowls England president Rosemary Ellman-Brown, senior vice-president Adie Lloyd, junior vice-president Marcia Pearce and immediate past president Stuart Lake, the team had travelled from as far afield as Cumbria and Scotland to take part in the fixture.

Their journeys proved worthwhile as FoEB claimed a 68-59 success.

Lyn Taylor skipped the sole rink success for Boat Club, claiming a 27-17 win alongside David Washbourn and Barbara Wigmore.

Royal Leamington Spa’s ladies enjoyed two emphatic victories in the space of 48 hours.

Their home triples friendly against Stratford resulted in a 74-37 win for Spa, with all four rinks going the way of the Victoria Park side.

Vice-captain Jenny Wickens led Dawn Horne and Janet Allibon to a 26-8 victory, with Sonia Stranks (18-13), Binky Herbert (16-11) and Cynthia Briggs (14-5) also successful.

The ladies followed up with a 102-37 demolition of Avon.

Again they won all four rinks, with Briggs this time taking the highest winning rink accolade for a 30-5 success.

Elizabeth G Jones was close behind after a 27-9 romp, with Donna Kerr (23-12) and Jean Smithard (22-11) completing the clean sweep.

Leamington’s men, however, suffered an 89-85 defeat at the hands of visitors Daventry.

Daventry were only able to field five triples, but despite losing three of the rinks, earned a four-shot sucess on the back of a commanding 26-7 success for D Mitchell over Dave Gardner.

Ray White (17-9), Dick Allibon (23-19) and Ivor Harris (23-16) were the victorious Spa skips.

Finally, an emphatic 29-14 victory for Keith Francis’ rink helped Lillington to a 88-78 win over Thornfield Rugby.

Malcolm Welsh (25-18) claimed the visitors’ only other success in a four-rink encounter.
