Thomas is star of junior trophy competition

DAVID Howe and Sue Draper were the perfect hosts on what proved to be a highly successful Captain’s weekend at Kenilworth Golf Club.

More than 300 golfers took part in a keenly contested stableford competition, which was spread over two days and included the services of a professional starter plus welcome refreshments at the halfway house.

In-form Keith Thompson ran out winner of Division One with an excellent 42 points and also took the best nett prize with 65.

He finished ahead of Craig Owen 39 and Adrian Riddell 38 although the latter had the satisfaction of carding the best gross score of 70, while the former took the longest drive prize.

Countback was required to determine the Division Two winner with James Underwood edging out Graham Parker by virtue of a better back nine after they both scored 39 points.

Neil Hammond finished third with 36 points.

Mark Morrison emerged triumphant in Division Three with 40 points from Roy Evans and Trevor Lindsay who both scored 37.

Evans also picked up the nearest the pin prize.

Jackie Corby, who also carded the best nett score of 72, won the ladies Silver Division with 36 points from Pat Langston 35 and Caroline Durbin 34.

The Bronze A Division winner was Teresa Donnelly with 33 points from Susan Drew 32 and Angela Guest 30, while the Bronze B Division saw success, on countback, for Diana Minshaw with 28 points ahead of Maureen McIsaac 28 and Michelle Morrison 24.

Lynda McCarthy posted the best gross score of 85, while Emma Saywell hit the longest drive and Lynn Blasdale took the nearest the pin prize.

Adam Thomas scored 44 points to win the John Sillett Trophy in Stoneleigh Deer Park’s Juniors section.

Runners up were Luke Green (43 pts) and Jack Crossley (42 pts).

Tom Charley teamed up with Elliot Gowling to win the club’s Juniors and Parents Par 3 Barbecue Evening event.

The pair recorded a score of 24 and won off the strength of a better back six compared to the second-placed duo of Green and Harry Smith.

Juniors captain Ben Charley and his playing partner Luca Triscornia scored 25 to finish third

Teresa Wright won the club’s stableford competition with 38 points with Nicky Woodhouse (35 pts) in second and Janet Groves (33 pts) in third.

Ladies’ captain Christine Britton organised a Jubilee fun game with hidden pairs but it was vice captain Brenda Sparrow and Nicky Woodhouse who emerged victorious with 65 points.

Teresa Wright and Jean Whidbourne (63 pts) were second while Brenda Parry and Sally Sparrow (62) came third.
