Wee Wonder Halstead set for World Championships

Youngster Maisie Halstead flew the Kenilworth Golf Club flag to good effect in the Wee Wonders grand final at St Andrews.

The talented six-year-old, who qualified for the Scotland event along with her brother George at Cambridge Lakes GC, produced an accomplished performance to book her place in the US Kids European championships at Gullane, East Lothian, as well as the coveted World Championships at Pinehurst, US, next year.

Meanwhile, Richard Keegan captained a formidable quartet to an impressive success in the men’s Texas Scramble at Crewe Lane on Sunday.

Keegan, Martin Bradley, John Kavanagh and Mick Satchwell carded a splendid 64, nett 57-and-7/8, to finish well clear of runners-up Geoff Owen, Mark Gardner, Kevin White and Steve Holt 67, nett 60-and-1/2.

Nearest the pin winners were Graham Hurst (10th) and Liam Sproul (18th).

November Extra Medal: Division A: 1, Wes Woodhead (32pts); 2, Alan Chambers (26pts). Division B: 1, Mark Wright (35pts); 2, Adrian Penny (34pts).

Warwick’s annual Christmas Fayre competition had an additional twist with a Christmas jumper competition.

On the golf side, Ian Scandrett scored a steady 39 points to win Division One, with Rob Buckingham two points back in second.

Rich Betteridge won Division Two, edging out Pete Hall’s on countback after both scored 35 points.

Club secretary Graham Harrington was adjudged to have the best Christmas jumper.
