Healey try a bonus for Old Leamingtonians

OLD WHEATLEYANS 5 OLD LEAMINGTONIANS 22

OLD Leamingtonians provided newly promoted Old Wheatleyans with a tough introduction to Midlands Three West (South) life, running out comfortable winner after a dominant display from their pack and three-quarters.

OLs created a number of good scoring chances during the first 15 minutes but failed to capitalise on them and were punished when Old Wheats’ right-winger evaded a number of tackles to touch down in the corner.

The visitors responded with another prolonged spell of pressure which saw Rob Ridler denied a try for a forward pass.

Shortly afterwards, OLs did make their pressure count, with winger Sam Randall crossing in the corner to make it 5-5.

OLs’ dominance then paved the way for a second try, scored by second-row Dan Careless and converted by fly-half Mark Foley.

The second half followed the same pattern with the OLs pack dominating and Old Wheats defending valiantly.

However, a quick switch of play between the forwards and backs followed by swift hands across the line allowed Foley to cross for an unconverted try.

As the Old Wheats pack tired from the relentless barrage, the bonus-point try was added by captain Jason Healey after a further period of forward pressure.
