Hibberd has staying power to claim cup

Last week’s rain-affected Taylor Cup Final was completed this week at Crackley Lane along with the two major association croquet finals, the Secunderabad Cup and the St George’s Cup.

John Leader and Frank Hibberd competed for the Taylor Cup in a best-of-three encounter which turned into a five-hour battle.

Hibberd won the first 14-9 and Leader responded to claim the second 14-6.

In the last game, accurate hitting-in from his opponent forced Leader to send a ball off the lawn at a critical stage and Hibberd took advantage to complete a 14-8 victory.

The Secunderabad Cup did not last quite as long, with Cliff Daniel surviving some late misses to defeat Alan Richardson 26-15.

Two good breaks from Philip Wood saw him beat Adrian Morris 26-15 to lift the St George’s Cup.
