King recognised as a Rising Star

Stoneleigh driver Jordan King has been awarded the Rising Star status by the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) .

King, 17, was one of only four drivers selected for the recognition, which has previously been bestowed on F1 world champions Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Sir Jackie Stewart and the club’s president, Damon Hill.

“It’s really good for my career, obviously,” said King, who is currently preparing for his maiden full season in the Formula Renault UK Championship. “The Rising Star scheme is for elite drivers and there aren’t that many on it, so it’s brilliant to be associated with such a prestigious programme.”

“Jordan is a young driver who the BRDC has been watching for some time following his considerable success in karting,” revealed club secretary Stuart Pringle.

“His arrival in cars has very much lived up to the expectations that many in the sport had for him and he was therefore a strong candidate to join the BRDC Rising Star scheme at an early stage of his career.

“We are delighted to have him on the scheme and very much hope this is the start of a lifelong association with the club.”
