CYCLING: Paralympian Sam Ruddock taking on world's top cyclists

Double paralympian Sam Ruddock is representing Great Britain at the UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships, which take place in Milton, Canada over the next four days.

Sam, 29, a former pupil at Bishop Wulstan and Rugby School is the only new face in the squad of 23 Great Britain riders.

He has been selected for his first world championships on two wheels after a successful career competing in athletics.

He was a T35 100m and 200m sprinter at the London 2012 Paralympics and then switched from track to field as a shot putter at Rio de Janeiro four years ago, where he finished in sixth place in the final.

Sam, who has cerebral palsy, which affects his balanc e, co-ordination and flexibility, will be racing in the MC1 pursuit today, the kilo tomorrow and the scratch race on Saturday.

In training for this summer’s Paralympics in Tokyo, Sam, whose international sporting potential was spotted when he was a student at Loughborough University in December 2011, is an athlete mentor for the Youth Sport Trust.
