Here are 16 photos that we printed in the Courier and Weekly News that illustrate the ups and downs of 2019.
13. Fighting back against HS2
In October, protest camps were set up in South Cubbington Wood (pictured) and Crackley Woods to stop HS2 workers destroying the ancient woodlands, to make way for the high speed rail line. Currently, work is 'on hold' as the Government review the plans but trees are still being felled across the district. Photo: Frances Wilmot
14. We are so proud!
There is certainly a lot to be proud of in Hatton Park. Rachel Ollerenshaw and Stuart Kettell, both from the village, won awards at the Pride of Birmingham Awards, the regional round of the Pride of Britain awards, in the spring. Rachel, pictured on stage getting her award, founded Molly Ollys Wishes with husband Tim in 2011 a few months after their daughter Molly lost her battle with cancer, aged just eight.
Stuart has raised more than 50,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care since 2006. Nicknamed The Mad Fool, his crazy stunts for the charity include pushing a sprout up Mount Snowden with his nose, running seven marathons in seven days in a giant hamster wheel and, last year, cycling from Lands End to John OGroats on a penny farthing.
15. Champions!
What a season it was for Kenilworth RFC. They revelled in a never-to-forgotten day at Twickenham when they collected the Intermediate Cup by beating Matson 32-26. The success completed an impressive treble that also included the Midlands Cup crown as well as the Midlands Two West (South) title.
